PAINT & STAIN FINISHES
Milk paint is one of the oldest forms of paint and is an all-natural product with no harmful odors. It can be painted over existing finishes and has a very natural "chippy" finish that appears time-worn. It comes in a great selection of colors and can be combined with stain or chalk paint for a very vintage look.
Chalk paint is a very forgiving medium that can adhere to almost anything without sanding. Some lighter colors (such as white) may require several coats or a primer if painted over any red-based stains that are known to bleed through. There are many great products on the market or I can custom mix any color of latex paint to match your decor.
Many people prefer the look of wood grain vs. painting. When the wood is in great condition and won't require too much prep or repair, I recommend staining. Any chalk or milk paint can be diluted to behave like a stain as well. If the wood is a wide grain with many knots or damaged areas, we can add a toner, glaze or dry brush color to help even the color.
I prefer to use water-based products and as little chemicals as possible so I sand versus using chemical strippers.
